Paul Bayley – 1972 Triumph TR6

Paul Bayley – 1972 Triumph TR6

There are plenty of reasons why these classic British roadsters find favour with enthusiasts, and when you combine the stylish looks with ample performance it’s easy to see their enduring appeal.

This is a car that Paul always wanted, and having retired he bought the lovely example you see here. “It might have taken forty years but the desire for the TR6 never diminished, and it took about a year to find the right car and several more years to improve it.”

What he wanted was one that had a sound body and chassis and that could be enjoyed straightaway but could still benefit from mechanical improvements he could undertake himself. That was exactly this car, and he began by removing the engine and gearbox for a thorough overhaul and clean.

The winter months were the perfect opportunity to overhaul the suspension, update the fuel system for modern petrol and improve the wiring with additional fuses and relays. And Paul’s late-wife gave the desirable Triumph a new interior which still looks in great shape today and helps him remember her when he goes for a drive.

The owner says the improvements have made the car more reliable, comfortable and safer to drive, and it now boasts engine performance enhancements, leather seats and uprated brakes.

He goes on say that ownership has opened up a whole new world, from enjoying great club drives to meeting other enthusiasts at shows and club events. He’s made plenty of new friends, and gets as much pleasure from preparing the car as he does spending time behind the wheel.

The TR6 is a fun and entertaining classic, and with excellent club and specialist support it’s a car guaranteed to provide many years of enjoyment. We love this cracking example and think you will, too.
