Danny Hopkins's 1972 Triumph 2000
It’s Editor Danny’s forever car – in his family since new and it’s the first car he remembers travelling in. Purchased by his grandfather in 1972 it was taken off the road in the 1990s and stored in his Auntie Sue’s garage Danny took it on eight years ago for a full resto. Now it’s his family heirloom, still with much of the patina that keeps it personal. Danny recently took it to Silverstone to enjoy the Lap of Lights. After a full lap, 30 minutes at 10mph, for the first time ever, the car let him down. Losing power on acceleration Danny’s instinct was fuel pump failure. Having no tools to hand, he awaited recovery from the AA - which took ages! But after posting his predicament online, Steve Denton, fellow enthusiast and classic mechanic specialising in Triumphs, came to the rescue equipped with a Facet pump. After cutting new fuel lines to length, deploying jubilee clips, cable tying the electric pump in a secure spot and wiring it into the ignition, Danny was able to start his car and make his way home. Thanks Steve - the hero of the hour!
