Pete Cooper - Maestro & Montego Owners Club

Pete Cooper - Maestro & Montego Owners Club
Pete’s official role is membership secretary, but the reality is that his role goes much further than that.  He helps with event coordination, arranging stands at shows for members to attend, and setting up and manning the stands.  He is also our Monstro (club magazine) coordinator and editor, collating all the articles and photos and getting them to the publisher, working with on several drafts before the magazine finally goes to print.
Pete often answers members' and non-members' various queries and is great at signposting.   Pete is our backstop and picks up anything which other members of the committee are unable to do including those ‘curve ball’ types of jobs, those you don’t see coming and don’t expect! Pete is unbelievably efficient!  He replies to messages, phone calls, letters etc usually within a day.  He is hugely patient and has helped get some of our older members online, helped those who struggle with technology, and his IT knowledge is a huge benefit to the club and our members.   He has a good sense of humour and can take a joke (which is very useful in the car club world!), but I have yet to see him become cross or even vaguely annoyed which is almost unheard of within any type of committee.  He’s the first to put his hand up to get quotes for whatever the club is working on and is great at working with various suppliers and building good relationships.   Pete is our glue and is great at communication, which is vital for the smooth running of a club.  Pete is utterly dependable, always there to help be it a club official, club member or member of the public, but above all, he is always, always kind.   Most of the work that Pete does is with people either face to face, over the phone or via the internet, be it with club members or the public.  I have received many emails saying how helpful he is and people also tell me in person.   Last year we celebrated 40 years of the Maestro and Pete was instrumental in pulling together our big Maestro@40 celebration at the British Motor Museum which was a huge success and thoroughly appreciated by all our members and visitors to the show.  Pete is currently working on our Montego@40 celebrations for this year.  Along with everything Pete does for M&MOC, he is also the membership secretary for the Rover 600 & 800 Owners Club.
If you did a Glutton for Punishment award, I would nominate Pete for that too! Pete is a true unsung club hero because he’s quiet and humble, and just gets on with what needs going.   He’s not the type to be at the front of a club stand unless he’s the only one there, he’s the one taking the old coffee cups and rubbish to the bins.
He resolves issues so quickly that he almost becomes forgotten and if there was an opposite of a drama queen, Pete would be it!
