The Standard Motor Club was formed in 1974 and so celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2024.We cater for all Standards built from 1903-65. We have almost 1000 members who get the award-winning magazine every month and have access to a unique resource of Standard spares. Our Highly Commended website is well worth a visit. We are displaying four Standards. The oldest is a 1921 SLO,not the description of its speed but standing for Short wheelbase,Long Stroke,Overhead valves. It was last restored over 60 years ago and is now tired and needs a further restoration. We are also showing the oldest known surviving 1937 Flying 12 Drophead. Our third car is a 1955 Standard Eight, the basic model launched with sliding windows,no hub caps, one windscreen wiper, one sunvisor and a non opening "dust free" boot.Until 2025 it had been in the same family ownership from new and found fame in 1995 when the late great Quentin Wilson described it as "ditchwater dull"in an episode of BBC'sTop Gear. This caused a backlash from Standard enthusiasts who pointed out that the 1955 RAC Rally had been won by a similar Standard Ten and the late Stirling Moss had also owned an Eight. The car was featured in various classic magazines including Classic Car Weekly and in the Daily Telegraph Motoring Supplement as well as on BBC's Points of View. Our final car is a 1952 Vanguard Estate Car.
The Club's International Rally for 2026 is from 26th-28th June at Cheltenham Chase Hotel,Gloucestershire
