Wolseley Hornet Special Club: Legendary 1934 Daytona Special Gets a Live Makeover
The Wolseley Hornet Special Club is bringing four historic Hornets to the show, including the iconic 1934 Wolseley Hornet Eustace Watkins Daytona Special and a 1932 Patrick-bodied example. But the real action will be on their live restoration stand, where club members from Brooklands Autocraft Ltd. will be tackling a full-scale rebuild of the Daytona Special.
Over the course of the show, visitors can watch as the team:
-
Installs the diff, propshaft, rear hubs, half shafts, and refurbished brake cylinders
-
Relines front and rear brake shoes, fits new copper pipes and flexible hoses, and bleeds the system
-
Rebuilds suspension with refurbished shock absorbers front and rear
-
Reassembles the cylinder head with new camshaft, valve, and rocker gear, then refits it onto the engine with full timing adjustments
-
Refits all engine ancillaries
In addition, the club will be fitting a brand-new cast and machined 14HP cylinder block, complete with new crank, rods, and pistons—a truly one-off restoration project in progress.
Prior work has included a full gearbox rebuild, new lightweight flywheel, clutch, and diff rebuild. Now, all these painstakingly restored components will come together before visitors’ eyes, giving a rare insight into the craftsmanship required to bring a 1934 competition car back to life.
From brakes to engine, suspension to running gear, this stand promises to be a masterclass in classic car restoration.
