Celebrating 50 Years of the Porsche 924 with Live Restoration
Members of the Porsche 924 Owners Club will be celebrating a landmark anniversary at the show as the iconic Porsche 924 turns 50. To mark the occasion, the club is not only showcasing some fascinating examples of the model but also demonstrating how these much-loved transaxle Porsches can be kept on the road through hands-on restoration work throughout the weekend.
Taking centre stage on the stand will be three examples of the Porsche 924S, which itself celebrates its 40th anniversary this year as part of the wider half-century milestone for the 924 lineage. Among them is a particularly special car — the rare Porsche 924S Le Mans edition. Finished in black and one of just 400 produced, it represents one of the most sought-after variants of the model.
Visitors will be able to watch club members carrying out a range of live restoration and maintenance tasks across the weekend. From electrical repairs to troublesome windows and rescuing tired upholstery, to suspension work, body repairs and rust prevention, the demonstrations will offer practical insight into what it takes to keep these classic Porsches performing as they should. It’s a rare opportunity to see experienced owners sharing their knowledge and techniques while working directly on the cars.
The celebrations don’t stop at the show. The club is also preparing for an extraordinary international adventure to mark the anniversary — a six-day European tour called “The Homecoming.” The journey will culminate in a visit to the factory where the 924 was originally produced in Neckarsulm, Germany. The car holds special significance in the town’s history, where it is credited with helping sustain local manufacturing, and the mayor is planning a civic parade to welcome the returning cars.
The club’s stand promises to be a hub for fans of the 924, offering a closer look at these increasingly appreciated classics while demonstrating the passion and dedication required to keep them running. For anyone interested in classic Porsche ownership — or simply keen to see restoration skills in action — it’s a display not to miss.
