Riley Motor Club Celebrates the Centenary of the Riley 9 with Hands-On Engineering

The Riley Motor Club will be marking a very special milestone at the show – the centenary of the legendary Riley 9. First introduced in 1926, the Riley 9 became one of the marque’s most influential models, renowned for its innovative engineering and sporting character. To celebrate 100 years of this iconic car, the club is bringing a fascinating mix of Riley models, technical demonstrations and archive material for enthusiasts to explore.

Visitors will be able to see a diverse selection of Riley cars spanning several eras of the marque. Among them are two notable Gerald Palmer designs – an ex-Australia Riley Pathfinder and a Riley 2.6 – alongside a beautifully styled Pininfarina-designed Riley 4/72. Representing the BMC years are a Riley 1.5 and the much-loved Riley Elf, giving visitors a rare chance to see how the brand evolved through the decades.

Adding to the appeal will be a series of hands-on technical demonstrations focusing on one of the most intriguing aspects of Riley engineering: the gearbox. Club experts will be taking a closer look at the workings of both the Silent Third and the pre-selector gearbox systems, explaining their design and demonstrating how they are maintained and repaired. It’s a fantastic opportunity for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of these clever period technologies and the skills required to keep them working smoothly.

Alongside the cars and demonstrations, the club will also be showcasing a range of archive material that celebrates Riley’s rich history, along with club merchandise and an interesting display piece – a Riley 9 cylinder head – offering a closer look at the engineering behind the model that started it all.

For Riley enthusiasts and classic car fans alike, the Riley Motor Club stand promises a fascinating blend of heritage, technical insight and celebration of one of Britain’s most characterful marques.
