MR2 Drivers’ Club

The MR2 Drivers’ Club brings a brilliant cross-section of Toyota’s mid-engined sports cars to the show, celebrating hands-on ownership, home restorations, and the sort of dedication only true enthusiasts understand. From track action to painstaking rebuilds, their stand shows what happens when people really commit to keeping these cars alive and well.

On the stand

Visitors will be able to see three generations of the Toyota MR2 story:

  • 1986 Mk1 MR2 – A track-prepared race car, affectionately known as “Humphrey”, owned and campaigned by husband-and-wife team Vix and Phil. Between them they’ve owned multiple MR2s over the years, proving that “just one MR2” is rarely enough once the bug bites.

  • 1991 Mk2 MR2 – A remarkable club project restored by one member for another. The car belongs to Tony, a long-standing member who, after a serious accident forced him off the road for several years, returned to find his original MR2 declared beyond saving. Another club member stepped in, rescued the condemned car, and brought it back from the brink – the very car now heading to the NEC (assuming the final touches are finished in time!).

  • 2001 Mk3 MR2 Roadster – A freshly completed restoration by father-and-son team Steve and Josh, well known in the MR2 Roadster community for helping countless owners keep their cars running right. This example will now become their long-term show car.

What’s happening on the stand

Throughout the show, club members will be on hand with servicing and maintenance demonstrations, sharing practical advice on how to keep MR2s healthy, usable, and enjoyable. Whether you’re dealing with age-related issues, track wear and tear, or planning a full restoration of your own, there’ll be plenty to learn from people who’ve been there, skinned their knuckles, and kept going anyway.
